What to expect

Understanding the unique work God has done in Calvary Chapel churches can offer clarity on how we differ from other evangelical communities.

Bible Lessons

Bible Focused

We are a Bible-loving church. We are not motivational speakers/life coaches, nor are we lecturers. We are not liberal, nor are we legalistic. We believe the Bible is God's message to us from Heaven, and that His Word is 'living and active' (Hebrews 4:12) and that it 'endures forever' (1 Peter 1:25). This makes it very relevant to us today, and so it must be taught properly, and it must continue to be our primary guide until Christ returns.

Expository Teaching

This understanding of God's Word leads us to place an emphasis on expository teaching - teaching the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, and book by book. We believe the Bible is filled with amazing depth and richness, and that it is God's desire for us to meditate on it and understand it (Joshua 1:8).

We also do topical teachings on a regular basis, as we feel led.

Soteriology

We believe in God's Sovereignty over mankind, but we also believe in Man's Responsibility for his decisions and actions. Therefore, we are not Calvinist, nor are we Arminian - we believe both of these doctrines are too restrictive in seeking to explain a supernatural process, which the Bible indicates to involve both God's Sovereignty and Man's Responsibility.

Gifts of the Spirit

Many believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but they don’t emphasise teaching the Bible to any level of depth. Nor do they look to the Word for guidance in exercising such gifts properly and orderly. On the other hand, there are many who strongly emphasise teaching the Bible, but they don’t share the view that gifts of the Holy Spirit are still available today.

In Calvary Chapel, you will find diligent teaching of the Word, and an open heart to the work of the Holy Spirit.

It is this balanced approach across several areas that makes Calvary Chapel a distinct movement of God that He has blessed and which continues to grow.
